How This Calculator Works

This calculator uses the US Navy body fat formula, which estimates body fat percentage from simple tape measurements. The formula accounts for the relationship between body circumference measurements and body density.

For men, the calculation uses height, waist, and neck measurements. For women, a hip measurement is also needed because fat distribution differs between sexes.

While not as precise as methods like DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing, the US Navy method is widely used and gives a reasonable estimate for most people. Results can vary based on measurement accuracy, so take each reading at the same time of day and in the same spot for consistency.
